Collaboration with Alice Demée for the MURAL Festival (I had had knee surgery two weeks prior to the event, therefore had to paint on the floor!)
What a privilege to work with this talented human being! I've always loved Alice's work (fun fact: I was her secret fan before we became friends) and her commitment to the feminist cause. I'd been wanting to make a nod to this movement for a while, so what better way than to illustrate Simone Veil at MURAL.
Simone Veil is a feminist icon and an inspiring voice for millions of women around the world.
Her contribution to the international feminist movement is immense. As French Minister of Health, she played a key role in the legalization of abortion in 1975, a breakthrough for women's rights. Her advocacy of reproductive autonomy resonated far beyond France's borders, inspiring similar movements in many countries, including Canada.
Simone Veil was also a prominent voice in the European Parliament, where she defended women's rights and worked for the implementation of policies promoting gender equality. Her lasting impact on society has been recognized by numerous awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012.
This great lady will forever remain an emblematic figure of feminism, a source of inspiration for present and future generations.
